Desleigh Forster’s talented Brisbane galloper Adebisi is gearing up for their interstate debut this Saturday, the five-year-old having drawn to perfection with barrier three of 11 for the 2012 Razor Sharp Handicap at Sydney’s Warwick Farm Racecourse.

Due to run as Warwick Farm Race 8 at 5:45pm (AEST) the $100,000 Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) will be Shovhog gelding Adebisi’s first run outside of Queensland and Forster is confident that after they came up trumps with the gate they will be a competitive force.

“Once I saw the barrier draw for the Razor Sharp I didn’t need a lot of persuasion to put him on the float,” Forster said.

“From gate three he should bounce straight to the front but I’ll leave the tactics up to Hugh (Bowman).

“I’m sure he’ll have a plan worked out.”

A winner of eight of their 31 career starts to date the $15,000 bargain buy from the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale is already a Group 3 winner having taken out the George Moore Stakes last December.

They defended their George Moore title last time out but could only manage to finish fifth to Startsmeup, a credible effort after they jumped from barrier 10 of 13 and were still only one and a half lengths off the winner on the line.

In that run they carried a hefty 58.5kg and will relish dropping back to the 54.5kg on Saturday, the lightest weight they’ve been allocated in over 12 months.

“The last time he carried that sort of weight was a year ago when he ran third in the Lough Neagh at Doomben so he won’t know himself with 54.5kg on Saturday,” Forster said.

The Razor Sharp Handicap will certainly be a good test for Adebisi who faces the likes of Rick Worthington’s returning warhorse Whitefriars, former Hong Kong star Hypurr having their first run down under and the Peter Snowden-trained Skytrain.

If all goes to plan Forster will continue onto the autumn features in Sydney and Melbourne with Adebisi who could target the $400,000 Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Blue Diamond Stakes Day, February 23, 2013.
