Annabel & Rob Archibald will weigh up next autumn options for their exciting I Am Invincible filly Chayan including a potential Golden Slipper bid following her tenacious win in Saturday’s Reisling Stakes 2026 at Royal Randwick.

After a tough lead-up run when forced to cover lots of ground out wide in Melbourne’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, Chayan showed lovely progression breaking her maiden status at her third start off a well-rated ride by maestro hoop James McDonald in the Group 2 $300,000 Resiling Stakes (1200m).

“She had no luck from the draw in the Blue Diamond, she was five-wide all the way. So, to come here today and win a Group 2 is very satisfying,” co-trainer Annabel Archibald told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“We thought there would be a bit of speed and James said he just wanted to blend in and find some cover. I was happy when he got in and she was very strong late. It was a big win.”

Franking the Victorian form with her first trip to Sydney, Chayan ($3.10) was settled off speed early by J-Mac before coming from fifth on the turn for home with a big late charge down the straight.

Chayan has firmed into $9 to become the first filly since Estijaab (2018) to complete the Reisling / Golden Slipper double!

Closing in on the front-running Agrarian Girl, the eventual Reisling Stakes winner flew down the outside before hitting the lead and storming away for a big 2.97 length victory over the beaten favourite with Miss Chanel finishing third.

“She’s a really good filly and I’m grateful that Annabel and Rob (Archibald) put her in the race for me,” McDonald said post-win.

“They were tossing up whether to run her next week, but I was adamant, I’m available for this race please run her here and she justified that. Very nice filly, straight forward.

“She’s beautiful to deal with. She’s lovely, got a good mind to her. Just a strongly built two-year-old that’s ready to rock and roll.”

With the Reisling Stakes result, Chayan punched her golden ticket into the Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 21.

“We won this race with Learning to Fly a couple of years ago and that ended up a disaster (fell in the Golden Slipper,” Archibald said.

“But she is very tough. She had a tough run in the Blue Diamond and a trip in between so that was my only concern, but she is very exciting.”

Estijaab (2018) was the last filly to complete the Reisling Stakes / Golden Slipper double, and the price on Chayan to be the next should connections opt to send her into the world’s richest race for juveniles has been slashed from $51 into $9 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

While the Slipper remains an option, McDonald said he would prefer to see her saved for the $1 million Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Day 2 of The Championships – April 11.

“I’d love her to go to the Percy Sykes instead of the Slipper, but we’ll see how much pull I’ve got,” he said.

“If she got challenged, she would have quickened up a bit more, but she did what she had to do on a hot day today and two weeks to the Slipper or four weeks to the Percy.”

She currently pays $10 (in from $17) in all-in Percy Sykes Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
