2010 George Moore Stakes Cancelled from Summer Racing Carnival

In a major blow for the summer racing carnival in Brisbane, the $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) was washed out for the second weekend in a row and has now been officially cancelled.

The 2010 George Moore Stakes, an important and lucrative feature in its own right as well as a major preparatory run for a number of horses heading towards the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival, will not take place after being abandoned two Saturday’s running due to torrential rain at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

As well as the George Moore Stakes, the $100,000 Listed Gold Edition Plate was also abandoned on Saturday, but will be added to the Doomben meeting on December 18th.

The connections of the horses that were due to run in these critical carnival races now have to reschedule their entire summer preparations and the question has to be asked how many of the horses can stay in peak condition after missing out on the runs.

Clear favourite in the George Moore Stakes markets was the Tony Gollan-trained Temple Of Boom, the classy Toowoomba galloper now set to contest the Bat Out of Hell (900m) at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day.

Temple Of Boom will likely face off against Burdekin Blues in the Bat Out of Hell, the reigning George Moore Stakes champion set to resume racing after an injury-enforced spell.

The next Group race of the Brisbane summer racing programme will be the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) on Boxing Day at Doomben where the likes of super consistent gelding Falino, the Tony Gollan-trained Spirit Of Boom a half-brother to Temple Of Boom and Danzero three-year-old Startsmeup will face off.
