2018 Chipping Norton Stakes Betting: Winx Odds $1.08

Superstar mare Winx has unsurprisingly opened odds-on at $1.08 in Chipping Norton Stakes 2018 betting for her autumn kick-off this Saturday in Sydney.

After bypassing the Apollo Stakes a fortnight back due to the suspension of jockey Hugh Bowman, Chris Waller’s 15-time Group 1 star is back first-up in the Group 1 $600,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

Racing over a mile, a distance the daughter of Street Cry boasts outstanding form over with eight wins and a second from nine starts, Winx dually defends her title in this weekend’s weight-for-age feature.

Looking to be the first three-time Chipping Norton Stakes winner since the four-peat of Tie The Knot (1999-2002), the now six-year-old looks very likely to surpass former sprint champ Black Caviar who she currently co-holds the 15 Group 1 wins record with.

Winx chases her 23rd win on the trot having been brought on fitness-wise for Saturday with a simulated race on Apollo Stakes Day, which she won with ease.

Bowman is back in the saddle in the nine-horse Chipping Norton Stakes field and has described the $15.6 million earner as being more settled than ever having put her through her paces in a Thursday track gallop.

“She’s more settled, which suggests to me she’s a bit more happier in her own skin,” he told Racing Victoria.

“Trying to determine, ‘Is she better? Is she worse?’ it’s really only until we get to the races, it’s a question we can’t answer.

“Mentally, physically, she couldn’t be in better condition.

“She feels very comfortable to me.

“She’s settled down after her work really nicely, whereas this time last prep, it took her quite a while to relax. To me, that’s a really good sign.”

Winx currently pays $1.08 in the Chipping Norton Stakes odds and is the hard to beat favourite from barrier six.

The next best in Chipping Norton Stakes betting this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at $13 for the upset is the Kris Lees-trained 2016 VRC Derby winner Prized Icon.

The four-year-old More Than Ready entire has not won a race since that second Group 1 triumph over a year ago, but was far from disgraced first-up in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) when a half-length beaten running fourth.

Prized Icon is also two-from-three over the Randwick mile making him a top place chance especially on a Soft-rated track on Saturday.

The other Chipping Norton Stakes horses most likely to fill the placings behind Winx are Stampede ($17) and Classic Uniform ($34).

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott saddle-up Stampede, the High Chaparral five-year-old tipped to set the speed early as he looks to improve on a first-up sixth in the Apollo Stakes getting more suitable going with rain around ahead of the weekend.

Classic Uniform gets the run of the race from gate two, the Gary Moore-trained son of Al Maher having won the Group 2 Hill Stakes (1800m) – Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) at Randwick last spring before his first-up seventh in the Apollo Stakes.
