Redzel enhances his Everest chances with brilliant win in The Shorts

Brilliant sprinter Redzel greatly enhanced his chances for the $10m The Everest with a record breaking win in the Group 2 $200,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Shorts (1100m) at Randwick today.

Redzel was sent out as the $2.50 favourite and responded stoutly to Hugh Bowman’s riding over the concluding stages to get the better of the early leader Ball Of Muscle ($10) and go on and record his fourth win on the trot and set a new Randwick track record.

The $21 chance Nieta ran on strongly for third with Chautauqua the eye catcher behind the placegetters producing his customary whirl wind finish from the tail of the field to be beaten just over two lengths.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Redzel will now have four weeks to recover and prepare for the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 where he will meet the Team Hawkes trained Chautauqua again.

“He is very effective off a three weeks, a month break, he just races his best,” Peter Snowden said.

“We will run him this week and then four weeks to The Everest. Time wise it is perfect and hopefully the plan comes off.”

“He has come a long way this bloke.”

“He is very very genuine, he never makes a mistake. He can race on pace, wet tracks, dry track, carries weight well. He is just the real deal now.”

Bowman was keeping the saddle warm today for regular rider Kerrin McEvoy who had to forego the ride today to take the mount on the James Cummings trained Hartnell who ran second to Humidor in the Group 1 $750,000 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington today.

McEvoy will be back aboard Redzel in The Everest.
