Trainer Trent Busuttin is excited by the prospect of saddling three-year-old Seannie for the first time in Saturday’s Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield Racecourse.
A former Perth galloper, Seannie has only made four competitive appearances at the races since making her debut in October last year, but has produced a number of strong performances and results; highlighted by a smart win in the Listed Supremacy Stakes (1000m) on March 4th.
Busuttin told AAP that he has been impressed by everything that he has seen of the Sebring filly so-far and while thrilled with her condition ahead of the Quezette Stakes, believes that she will only improve as she gets out to races contested at a mile.
“We looked at her videos and I was very impressed with what I saw,” Busuttin said.
“She arguably should be unbeaten. But she’s a stakes-winning filly and looks to possess a good turn of foot.
“She’s had two jump-outs here at Cranbourne and impressed us.
“I get the feeling she’s probably a 1600 metre-plus filly. With her racing style the 1100 metres might be a bit sharp, but in saying that I don’t know.
“We’ve got Dwayne Dunn on her and she has galloped very well so we’ll find out a bit more about her.”
Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive debut, Seannie immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when delivering a smart field a one-length defeat in the Silks Plate (1000m) at Ascot on October 15th.
Resuming this year for her dominant win in the Supremacy Stakes, Seannie was caught in an awkward position in transit during the running of the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) on March 18th, but finished off the race well to place third.
Completely blocked for a run in the final straight at Ascot on April 1st, the filly out of Uncanny Choice flew home to finish a credible sixth in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m), in what was her final start for Simon Miller.
The 2017 Quezette Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (August 16th).
