Trainer Chris Waller will saddle-up the top two fancies in the Caulfield Guineas 2025 field in Melbourne on Saturday with Wodeton and Autumn Boy drawn at opposite ends of the field for the master horseman.

Waller chases his fourth win in the Group 1 $3 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) this weekend and back-to-back victories after his success with Private Life last spring.
His top middle-distance three-year-olds in the event this year are Autumn Boy drawn the rails and last start Golden Rose runner-up Wodeton wider out in gate 10.
Wodeton, a son of the late Wootton Bassett, has won just one of his eight starts to date but is being kept safe in Caulfield Guineas betting at $4.20 through Ladbrokes.com.au as a two-time Group 1 placegetter.
The classy colt was strong during his juvenile campaign that included a Golden Slipper second and fourth when up to 1400m in the Inglis Sires’ in Sydney.
He has had three runs this time in for three top four runs, the latest of which saw him cross four lengths second behind the runaway champ Beiwacht in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).
Saturday sees him head south to Melbourne and up to a mile for the first time with top rider for the stable, James McDonald, booked for the ride from barrier 10.
Drawn the inside alley is his stablemate and fellow $4.20 top elect in the current Caulfield Guineas odds, The Autumn Sun colt Autumn Boy.
Autumn Boy entered the spring as one of the spruik three-year-olds having won back-to-back events as a juvenile in his first campaign.
Fresh he caught the eye narrowly beaten by Sixties in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty before his last start seventh in the Golden Rose when caught wide and running out of time on the home straight.
Jockey Jason Collett said the youngster was looking for further with “a mile even ten furlongs” set to suit the up-and-comer who gets out over that trip with Damian Lane – winner of the event last year – coming aboard in Saturday’s feature.
Outside of Waller duo the other best in Caulfield Guineas betting at single figures is the widely drawn Group 1 winner Vinrock ($8) out in gate 14 with jockey Mark Zahra retaining the ride on the talented I Am Invincible colt.
Vinrock completed the rare Group 2 VRC Sires’ – Group 1 Inglis Sires’ double last prep and comes into the field off three good performances in Melbourne.
Two back he won the Listed Exford Plate (1400m) at Flemington carrying plenty of weight before his fifth to the runner-up out of the at event, West Of Swindon, in Moonee Valley’s Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m).
Vinrock drew gate eight of nine in the Stutt Stakes and will need to work to overcome another wide alley on the weekend sticking at a mile.
The Stutt Stakes winner West Of Swindon is also in the mix for the Caulfield Guineas chasing Group 1 glory on Saturday.
Ciaron Maher‘s in-form colt is beautifully bred and has plenty of improvement left in him looking spot on for the weekend despite an unfavourable barrier 16 draw for jockey Ben Melham to overcome.
Maher claimed the race two years back with Griff, who completed the Stutt Stakes – Caulfield Guineas double, in partnership with David Eustace and he is after his first win as a solo trainer this year with three runners.
Along with West Of Swindon, Maher will also be represented by last start Sandown winner Navy Pilot ($10) drawn a treat in gate two and the progressive Observer ($21).
Other notable hopes in the field include Planet Red ($13) coming off a Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude third, the lightly raced Stutt Stakes runner-up Romantic Encounter ($13) having just his third career start, and the autumn’s Group 1 Champagne Stakes winning Brutal colt Nepotism ($19) looking potential value for Team Hawkes.
The 2025 Caulfield Guineas is set to run as Caulfield Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card in Melbourne.
