Trainer Chris Waller enjoyed a stable quinella in the 2025 Golden Rose Stakes results with an enormous performance by the Godolphin raced Beiwacht who stormed home by over four lengths ahead of Wodeton in the $1 million feature at Rosehill.

Jockey Adam Hyeronimus was happy to be proven wrong about the 1400m potential of the now very valuable colt after he declared him a “risk” over the seven-furlongs following the horse’s lead-up second behind the filly Tempted in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m).
“I did tell everyone last start that it would be a risk at the 1400m, and the main thing was to ride him how we have been riding him, keep things simple,” Hyeronimus said.
“He has got a very good turn of foot, he showed that as a two-year-old winning the Silver Slipper, so he was due, but it’s very exciting.”
Not only did Beiwacht run out the 1400m, he romped home in a new track record time of 1 minute 20.79 seconds to secure his maiden Group 1 success and hand Waller a fourth Golden Rose Stakes trophy.
“It’s a big thing,” Waller said of securing an elite level victory for the three-year-old entire.
“He’s a Silver Slipper winner as a two-year-old, a Group 2 winner and now he has won a stallion making race.
“That’s fantastic (to set a new record), especially on your home track.”
A son of 2019 Golden Rose winner Bivouac, Beiwacht lived up to his pedigree carrying the famous Royal Blue silks of his sire but was underrated by the punters going around at $9.
Third-up and fit, the autumn’s Group 2 Silver Slipper winner posted his first victory since improving on his placings in both the Run To The Rose (2nd) and San Domenico Stakes (3rd) this time in.
“He’s a talented horse. He was always going to win a good feature race like this,” Hyeronimus said post-win.
“He’s been a difficult horse, and I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a horse as many starts as I have with this horse and very thankful to them to leave me on him.
“He has been a work in progress, and he’s come back this preparation, and he’s realised he’s a racehorse, he’s taken everything in his stride.
“He’s had to give the other horses weight in the leadup races, and his runs have still been terrific.”
Hyeronimus rated the up-and-comer perfectly from barrier two taking the eventual Golden Rose champion straight to the lead for a powerhouse front-running display that Waller was quick to credit.
“Adam Hyeronimus has done a great job,” he said.
“Godolphin has stuck solid with him. They’re an amazing team.
“He did a great job Adam. He didn’t panic on the horse, he got him into a nice rhythm and they’ve run time as well.
“It’s a true testament to Adam Hyeronimus and the Godolphin team so thanks for their support.”
Beiwacht was dominant leading from barrier to box in a one-horse affair absolutely blowing the field away.
Wodeton ($4.20) was next best over 4.14 lengths beaten, while the beaten favourite Tempted ($3) ran third with her hoop Ethan Brown saying: “She ran really well. They ran quick time, I feel like she’s probably a little bit more effective over 1200m with a hotter tempo but very good effort.”
While beaten a big margin, Waller said he was still happy with the performance by the runner-up who will likely be stretched out to 1600m now for a potential shot at the Group 1 $3 million Caulfield Guineas on October 11.
“We have to concentrate on Wodeton now and get his (Group 1) one as well,” he said.
“He’s a good colt. It was good to see him finish off well.
“(Wodeton’s late sire) Wootton Bassett is an amazing success story, it has been a sad week, but it was good to see Wodeton finish it off so well so a mile certainly wouldn’t be out of his repertoire.”
Jockey James McDonald is also confident a Group 1 win for Wodeton won’t be far away.
“He was excellent. He was very gallant in defeat, stayed on really well and his day will come,” he said following the Golden Rose second.
Wodeton has eased out from $6 to $8 in the updated all-in 2025 Caulfield Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, while Beiwacht has firmed from $26 to $11 should Waller opt to head that way with him.
Ole Kirk (2020) was the last three-year-old to complete the interstate Golden Rose – Caulfield Guineas double.
