Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival Group 1 racing gets underway at Doomben on Saturday with the popular 2025 Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 where dual The Quokka champ Overpass is narrow favourite to return to winning form.

This year’s Group 1 $1.5 million Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 (1200m) features a capacity field with the Bjorn Baker trained favourite drawn gate 10 for jockey Josh Parr.
The six-year-old son of Vancouver seeks atonement heading back east after he failed to make it a three-peat when fifth to Jokers Grin in the third edition of the $4 million The Quokka slot race in Perth on April 26.
He was brave in defeat as the beaten top fancy only 1.6 lengths off the shock winner, prior to which he produced an excellent first-up performance to run second to Briasa in Randwick’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes over The Championships in Sydney.
Third-up and fit he returns to Brisbane for the first time since his second to Giga Kick in the 2023 Doomben 10,000.
Overpass currently sits top of the latest Doomben 10,000 odds at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au paying $4.
Doomben 10,000 favourites have a strong record with Giga Kick ($1.65 in 2023) the last to salute for the punters.
Following closely on the second line of Doomben 10,000 betting despite a wide gate 14 draw is Sunshine In Paris from the Neasham/Archibald yard.
Master hoop James McDonald has the ride aboard the talented five-year-old Invader mare whose last run saw her finish third to Jimmysstar in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 19.
With her runs spaced she’s had a bit of time to recover as she prepares to drop back in distance to the six-furlongs.
Winner of Flemington’s Group 1 Champions Sprint last Melbourne Cup Carnival, Sunshine In Paris hasn’t run in Brisbane since December of 2022 but there is support from the punters.
In a close top-half of the markets a further two runners can also be found at single-figures with Schwarz ($5) and Benedetta ($7).
The John O’Shea & Tom Charlton Zoustar four-year-old Schwarz has won two of his past three starts so is fit and full of confidence chasing back-to-back Group 1s after a last start William Reid Stakes win at The Valley on March 22.
The form from that was franked with the third-placed Jimmysstar winning the aforementioned All Aged Stakes which bodes well for Schwarz here.
The entire has been kept ticking over with a couple of subsequent winning trials in Sydney, and he handles all track conditions in another plus ahead of the big one this weekend.
Jason Warren‘s Hellbent mare Benedetta, chasing her first win since last year’s The Goodwood in Adelaide, is another out to further frank the William Reid form.
She was second to Schwarz that time at Moonee Valley and comes off a last start All Aged fifth only two and a half lengths beaten as a 25/1 outsider.
The five-year-old will appreciate getting back to her pet distance (9:4-1-2) at Doomben on Saturday in her first look at the track.
Other notable Doomben 10,000 contenders at longer odds include shock Group 2 Victory Stakes winner at Eagle Farm last time out Libertad who could be an underrated value contender again at $34 and the Joe Pride trained Mazu ($15) who was back to his best last start taking out the Group 3 Hall Mark at Randwick.
The 2025 Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 is scheduled as Doomben Race 8 at 4:02pm (AEST) on Saturday’s nine-race card.
