Classy three-year-old Reserve Bank kept his excellent Morphettville record going when beating home his older rivals, including the short-priced favourite Giga Kick, by a notable margin in The Goodwood 2025 in Adelaide on Saturday.

Hailing from the Cranbourne stables of Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr), the in-form Capitalist colt made it three on the trot at the track continuing on from his Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes victory to claim an elite-level victory in the time-honoured Group 1 $1 million The Goodwood (1200m).
Ridden by last year’s winning hoop, Jamie Melham, the up-and-coming sprinter further cemented his Adelaide affinity as he made up ground after settling back the early stages after a poor jump.
Producing a strong late run through the field, Reserve Bank ($5.50) stormed home in the straight to overhaul local runner Sir Sway ($61) who was huge in defeat at any old odds, while the heavily backed favourite Giga Kick ($2.10F) had to settle for third in The Goodwood trifecta.
“He ran well. From the barrier we had to settle back,” jockey Mark Zahra said of the beaten favourite.
“The jockeys in front of me got into a bit of a tussle and I had to swing wider than I wanted but he got to the line nicely.”
It was a patient and impressive ride by Melham who vaulted down the middle of the course when the gap presented on the consistent colt to go back-to-back after riding Benedetta to victory in 2024.
“Nothing went to plan. He reared out the gates, missed the start, but I just got a dream run,” she told Racing.com.
“Giga Kick was on our outside, and I thought if I drag back now and get on his backside, he’s going to be too sharp.
“So, we just rode for luck. The gaps came and I was just a passenger. Mick’s got this horse absolutely flying that was a very impressive win.”
Reserve Bank bucked a trend this season, becoming the first three-year-old colt to conquer older rivals and claim a Group 1 prize, much to Price’s relief after he admitted being worried about the colt’s position mid-run.
“I was a bit concerned in the run, where he was,” the now 48-time Group 1 winning trainer said.
“I did say to her (Melham), ‘he’s a nice flow-along sort of horse – he doesn’t like the mixed messages and don’t drag him back.’
“But thankfully they ran along and he was allowed to use his big stride late and he took off.
“He just needs a bit of room. He’s a sizeable colt, and he’s got a good long stride on him, and he was strong at the end of 1200 metres.
“As the race worked out, you know, it was probably a good spot for him to be. There was a bit of argy-bargy going on up in front wasn’t there. He’s a lovely colt, and he’s won a Group 1 – fantastic.”
Having his 11th start, he celebrated his fifth victory to boost his career earnings up over $980,000.
Price & Kent meanwhile made it a double in the South Australian Group 1’s this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival following their Robert Sangster victory with Charm Stone who ran a disappointing last in The Goodwood results.
“Just off her action today. She’s a better mare than that,” Melham said post-race of Charm Stone who was 4.7 lengths off her winning stablemate when 13th.
The training duo also won the race 2022 with Lombardo, while co-trainer Price is now a four-time The Goodwood winning horseman having also taken out the famous sprint as a solo trainer with Perfectly Ready (2006) and Velocitea (2010).
