Ciaron Maher’s multiple Group 1 winning mare Bella Nipotina headlines the 2024 Tattersall’s Tiara field and betting markets for the final elite level of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival on Saturday.
A class line-up of fillies and mares does battle for this year’s Group 1 $700,000 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on the weekend with the acceptances led by last start Stradbroke runner-up Bella Nipotina.
She won the Doomben 10,000 three back before narrow seconds in both the Kingsford Smith Cup and Stradbroke Handicap here.
The six-year-old daughter of Pride Of Dubai is extremely well placed now back against her own kind at set weights to return to winning form and claim her third Group 1 trophy.
In Queensland’s best race she carted the 56kg top-weight from gate 17 only going down a quarter-length to upset winner Stefi Magnetica (with 50kg).
Things stack in her favour down in class for the Tiara, but she has another wide alley to overcome drawing 17 (into 15 with emergencies out).
The last Tattersall’s Tiara winner to salute from barrier 15 was also prepared by Maher when Srikandi got the job done from the carpark back in 2015.
Ryan Maloney comes aboard for the prized ride on Saturday with Bella Nipotina sitting top of the Tattersall’s Tiara odds at $2.70 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The danger occupying the second line of Tattersall’s Tiara betting at $6, and the only other single-figure fancy despite a capacity field, is the Chris Waller-trained C’est Magique.
The bonny Zoustar mare, previously with Grahame Begg, was excellent first-up for her new stable winning the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) here by 1.4 lengths on June 15.
Waller is after his third Tattersall’s Tiara triumph following previous victories with Red Tracer (2013) and Invincibella (2019) who was the last mare to complete the Dane Ripper – Tiara double C’est Magique is after this season.
Waller launches a three-pronged attack on the field with C’est Magique joined by stablemates Roots ($18) and Vienna Princess ($35) drawn in barriers eight and one respectively.
The early Tattersall’s Tiara market mover getting some love from the punters already in from $21 to $11 is Roll On High in gate four with Vlad Duric aboard the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman runner.
Shamus Award filly Roll On High is out to be the first three-year-old Tattersall’s Tiara winner since Startantes (2022).
She was good two back winning the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) at this track and trip from a wide alley before being outclassed when 11th, six lengths beaten, in the Stradbroke.
Other notable Tiara hopes in 2024 include the Luke Pepper-trained Opal Ridge ($11) drawn a treat in gate five for Tommy Berry and Michael Moroney’s Coeur Volante ($12).
The Tattersall’s Tiara 2024 is set to run as Eagle Farm Race 8 at 3:58pm (AEST) on Saturday’s nine-race card with full markets from Ladbrokes.com.au available by clicking here.
