The weather in Sydney today only has light showers forecast for the morning that are set to ease before first jump, but after yesterday’s rainfall there’s a current Heavy (8) Rosehill track rating.
Rosehill racing gets underway at 12:10pm (AEDT) and the bumper 10-race card is set to continue through until the fillies and mares face off in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) at 5:55pm (AEDT) where four have come out: #3 It’s Me #8 Katalin (9), #10 Robodira #12 Invincible Kiss
The first of the Group status events on the program is scheduled as Race 3 at 1:25pm (AEDT) with the N E Manion Cup, run this year as the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2400m), features a full field of potential Sydney Cup-bound stayers including the first emergency Chalk Stream coming in for #3 Mightybeel (8).
Race 4 is another staying event, this time for the female gallopers in the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) where Aspiration Quality winner Le Lude carrying the top-weight is favoured to win again and where #3 Our Intrigue
There is an incredible line-up of five elite level races taking place at Rosehill across the afternoon starting with Race 5 at 2:40pm (AEDT) where champion mare Verry Elleegant will face just five rivals in her bid at a 12th Group 1 victory in the $700,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).
Following that, Race 6 sees a small field of three-year-olds in the Group 1 $600,000 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) where Godolphin’s Anamoe is tipped to turn the tables on Converge after they ran two-one respectively in the Randwick Guineas last start over the mile.
There are just seven remaining hopefuls in the 2022 Rosehill Guineas with the withdrawals of #6 Sword Point #8 Three Wise Men
Race 7 at 4:00pm (AEDT) features an excellent field of weight-for-age stars in the Group 1 $1 million George Ryder Stakes (1500m) where three have come out including #11 Converge (10) has come out in favour of that earlier rematch with Anamoe.
The other George Ryder Stakes scratchings are #10 Hungry Heart
Trainer Annabel Neasham officially withdrew Mo’unga on Friday due to abnormal bloodwork.
“Mo’unga has unfortunately returned a slightly abnormal blood profile. This was undertaken today after leaving feed & a slight increase in his usual temperature. We have taken the unfortunate decision to scratch from tomorrows G1 George Ryder in the best interests of Mo’unga,” @ANeashamRacing confirmed on Twitter.
Updated 2022 George Ryder Stakes odds have Canterbury Stakes winning mare Forbidden Love chasing her third win on the trot as the firm favourite despite not getting her preferred mud track today.
The meeting’s marquee race is of course the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) set for Race 8 at 4:45pm (AEDT).
There’s a capacity 2022 Golden Slipper field this season and returning Magic Millions Classic winning filly Coolangatta, the Todman Stakes champ Sejardan and last weekend’s Magic Night Stakes winner She’s Extreme are best in betting.
Joe Pride’s Todman third place-getter #4 Shalatin
The marquee race to finish-up Group 1 racing in Sydney today sees the sprinters face off over the 1100m in the $700,000 The Galaxy where original top-weight #1 Splintex (16) and #10 Minhaaj come out.
Into The Galaxy 2022 field are first and second emergencies Shelby Sixtysix, winner of the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes last weekend, and 30/1 shot Jamaea.
Isotope meanwhile heads the markets, Tony Gollan’s class mare first-up having won the Magic Millions Snippets at the Gold Coast back in mid-January.
