The weather has been awful in Sydney leading-up to the fifth edition of the world’s richest turf race and while the rain should hold for the actual race day, we’ve been left with a Soft (7) Randwick track rating.

Randwick racing gets underway this afternoon at 12:30pm (AEDT) and the bumper 10-race program continues through until 6:10pm (AEDT).

Punters are treated to two Group status races and two special condition events starting with Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEDT) with the country gallopers facing off in the $1.3 million The Kosciuszko (1200m).

The 2021 The Kosciuszko field is at capacity with Front Page the notable withdrawal and the reigning champion Handle The Truth favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au with the top weight.

Next-up in Randwick Race 6 at 3:25pm (AEDT) there’s half-a-million on the line in the Group 3 $500,000 Sydney Stakes (1200m) for the sprinters that missed out on a slot in the 12-horse The Everest field.

The meeting’s headline event is of course the $15 million The Everest (1200m) due to jump at 4:15pm (AEDT) and where the Chris Waller-trained Nature Strip is firming favourite on the wet track to win the event at his third attempt.

There’s also a sizable $750,000 on offer in the last of the feature events – the Group 3 $750,000 Craven Plate (2000m) – where six horses have come out (#3 Keiai Nautique, #5 Best Of Days, #6 Cepheus, #7 Kiss The Bride, #8 Alakahan, #11 Hungry Heart) making things easer for clear favourite and last start $1 million Hill Stakes winner Think It Over.
