The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival continues at Royal Randwick today, Saturday October 9th, with 2021 Spring Champion Stakes Day and below we take a look at the latest scratchings and track report ahead of the first.
Australian Turf Club
The weather in Sydney today is partly cloudy but otherwise fine and without any rain on the radar the current Good (4) Randwick track rating looks set to remain across the afternoon.
Randwick racing gets underway at 12:35pm (AEDT) and the big 10-race program continues through until a short-distance sprint over 1000m closes the card at 6:05pm (AEDT).
Five Group status races highlight the action starting with Race 4 – the Group 2 $250,000 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) for the three-year-olds where the withdrawal of Captivant (1) and Three Wise Men (9) leaves just seven hopefuls led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au Chris Waller’s Caulfield Guineas scratching Coastwatch.
A potential Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes lead-up is next on the card with Race 5 – the Group 2 $300,000 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) field down to nine with the widely-drawn Rhapsody Rose (10) out and the consistent Paulele the one to beat.
While not holding Group status, the key support race is the $500,000 Silver Eagle (Race 7) for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle-bound four-year-olds and Our Playboy (15) is the notable withdrawal.
The namesake race is of course the Group 1 $1 million Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) for the Victoria Derby-bound three-year-olds slated as Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEDT).
The 2021 Spring Champion Stakes field is down to a dozen with Chill (3) out of the line-up leaving two fillies led by the Flight Stakes winner Never Been Kissed to take on the boys.
