2021 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Field & Odds Update: September Run v Isotope

Two talented fillies – September Run and Isotope – are tipped to battle it out in Saturday’s Arrowfield 3YO Sprint 2021 field when they take on the boys at Royal Randwick in the million-dollar showdown.

One of the key support acts on a bumper 10-race card in Sydney for Day 2 of ‘The Championships’, this year’s Group 2 $1 million Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) features a line-up of ten smart young sprinters.

Sitting top of the latest Arrowfield 3YO Sprint odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Chris Waller-trained Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner from the spring September Run ($3).

Drawn the rails with Craig Williams to ride, the daughter of Exceed And Excel has her first Sydney run since a fifth to Dame Giselle at the track and distance in last August’s Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes.

She has had three lead-up Melbourne runs this prep in Group 1 company including the first-up second to her champion stablemate Nature Strip in the Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) and her last-start fourth to Masked Crusader at The Valley in the William Reid Stakes (1200m).

With a month between runs, the fast-finishing filly can bounce back to her best form so long as Williams keeps her out of trouble from the inside alley.

Waller chases his third win in the event formerly known as the Royal Sovereign Stakes following his back-to-back victories with Delectation (2015) and Japonisme (2016).

Catchy (2018) was the last filly to beat home the boys in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint and, along with September Run, the other female galloper well-backed to be the next is the Tony Gollan-trained Isotope ($3.60).

Jumping from gate three with Ryan Maloney aboard, the consistent Deep Field filly from Brisbane has won three of her past four assignments with the loss coming when she lost her rider in the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January.

That was a huge blow for connections as she shaped-up as a winning hope for the punters, but Isotope bounced back at Rosehill on March 27 defeating Thousand Guineas winner Odeum in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m).

The Darby Munro form has been a strong one to follow in recent years into this grade of race and Isotope ticks plenty of boxes ahead of Saturday’s super showdown.

Occupying the third line of Arrowfield 3YO Sprint betting this autumn to round out the single-figure fancies is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Wild Ruler ($7).

Jumping from the outside alley, the talented son of Snitzel has the in-form James McDonald back aboard.

McDonald guided the colt over the spring, their partnership headlined by the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes win by two lengths over the 1200m at Randwick.

The hoop was also aboard for Wild Ruler’s third down the Flemington straight behind September Run in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

This campaign he won the Listed Fireball Quality first-up over 1100m carrying 59kg to victory as the odds-on favourite, before Kerrin McEvoy jumped on for a sixth last start at Rosehill behind Eduardo in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m).

Back to Randwick, up to 1200m, McDonald returning to the saddle and Wild Ruler is a definite threat.

Also in the mix are the likes of David Pffieffer’s returning Inglis Sprint winner Rocketing By ($12) who is undefeated at the track, the Snowden-trained Dame Giselle ($12) coming off a third behind the older mares in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and her Magic Millions Guineas winning stablemate Aim ($17) racing for the first time since January.
