The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival action continues at Royal Randwick today, Saturday October 10, with 2020 Spring Champion Stakes Day and below we have a look at the latest track report and race scratchings ahead of the first.
The Sydney forecast is for sunny skies and without any rain on the radar the current Good (4) Randwick track rating should remain for the entire card.
Randwick racing gets underway at 1:10pm and the nine-race program continues through until the last at 6:05pm.
The first of the Group status races of the afternoon is Race 2 – the Group 2 $300,000 Roman Consul Stakes field down to just five runners with Muntaseera scratched in favour of a Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes run in Melbourne instead.
There is also a small field gathered for the Group 2 $250,000 Stan Fox Stakes when Race 5 takes place at 3:30pm, the withdrawal of Mamaragan leaving six three-year-olds led in betting by Peltzer ($2.80 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).
Next-up the $7.5 million The Golden Eagle-bound four-year-olds face off in the $500,000 Silver Eagle with seven still in contention after two withdrawals and markets dominated by gun Queenslander Alligator Blood ($2.05 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).
The meeting’s feature race is scheduled to run as Race 7 at 4:40pm with two – #2 Global Quest and #8 Albarado – out of the Group 1 $1 million Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) where last Saturday’s Flight Stakes winning filly Montefilia ($2.40 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) is a hard to beat favourite.
The last of the Black-Types is the Group 3 Angst Stakes with the mares facing off in the penultimate race.
