It is overcast in Melbourne today but with zero chance of any substantial rain until Sunday, the current Good (3) Caulfield track rating looks set to remain across the card.

A bumper 10 race Caulfield Cup Day program kicks off this afternoon at 12:15pm (AEDT) and continues through until the card closer at 5:45pm (AEDT).

The first of the ‘Big 3’ spring majors is the marquee event the punters are counting down to when the 2017 Caulfield Cup jumps as Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEDT).

The original 17 starter Caulfield Cup field remains intact and the latest odds at Ladbrokes.com.au still have the Aidan O’Brien-trained raider Johannes Vermeer ($4.40) as the favourite looking to be the first international to salute at single-figures in the mile-and-a-half classic.

Suffering the biggest loss of numbers after the official Caulfield scratchings this morning is Race 5 – the 2017 Coongy Cup, five coming out of the Group 3 handicap leaving just six in the mix all at $7.50 or unders in betting.

The 2017 Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (Race 7) has also suffered two scratchings with Karacatis coming out earlier in the week, while the highly-rated Godolphin-raced Badajoz is also out.

The other Group 2 support act on the Caulfield Cup Day card is the Tristarc Stakes (Race 9) for the mares where four have officially come out including the widely-drawn but well-supported Team Snowden-trained Ravi.
