Equine superstar Winx is ready for her competitive return in Saturday’s Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick after visiting Rosehill Gardens on The Rosebud Day over the weekend.
Trainer Chris Waller believes that all of his horses, Winx included, relish a regular routine and he revealed that he took the multiple Group 1 champion to the races for a look around prior to her run and subsequent win in last year’s edition of the Warwick.
Having sizzled in two impressive Randwick barrier trials in recent weeks, Waller told AAP that Winx is primed for her return in the Warwick Stakes 2017.
“She came to the races just to get used to the atmosphere again,” Waller said.
“We did that with her last year before she ran in the Warwick Stakes.”
Winx is amidst an incredible run of form which now spans eighteen wins and more than two years, back to her dominant win in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) in May of 2015.
The Street Cry mare progressed to comfortable wins in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m) before mustering arguably the best performance of her career to retain her Cox Plate crown via an eight-length triumph at The Valley on October 22nd.
Resuming this year for a comfortable win in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), Winx jogged clear of her rivals to win the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), before beating a talent-rich field by close to eight lengths in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on March 18th.
Set for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Winx took a position within the field of nine and was produced by jockey Hugh Bowman rounding onto the final straight; storming clear of her rivals to win the race by six lengths.
Winx has been known for her quiet trials in previous seasons, but she ran well to finish third in a 900 hit-out on July 24th, before savaging the line to win a 1000m trial last Tuesday.
The 2017 Warwick Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
