Originally this year’s $100,000 Listed Singapore Turf Club Members’ Handicap (1600m), running as Race 3 on the Doomben 10,000 Day program, attracted a dozen starters.
Chris Waller subsequently scratched the 59kg top weight Amovatio from the line-up, leaving the in-form Michael Nolan-trained Jumbo Prince heading the handicaps with 57kg.
Luke Tarrant continues his association aboard the Outback Prince stallion from Toowoomba who is drawn well in barrier three as he chases his first win since the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) under the same kilos two back on April 8.
Last time out Jumbo Prince, who has strong form at the Doomben track (15-3-3-2), finished fourth at the course behind Single Gaze in the Listed Tails Stakes (1600m).
A versatile horse who was third in last year’s Grafton Cup (2350m) and third in January’s Magic Millions QTIS race over 1300m, Jumbo Prince leads the Members’ Handicap odds for Saturday at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $4.20.
In a wide open Members’ Handicap betting markets the next best fancied at $6 is the fellow Toowoomba-trained Cantbuybetter for Ben Currie.
Benefiting from the booking of Jeff Lloyd for the second time in as many starts, the Casino Price five-year-old is also a Tails Stakes gradate having finished under a length away third.
He stays on 54kg for this and under those kilos returning to the track and distance is a genuine winning hope.
Following closely are then Tony Gollan’s Bernardini mare Sheiswhatsheis ($7) and Punta Norte ($7.50) out in barriers 10 and 11 respectively.
A five-time winner from five starts over the mile, Sheiswhatsheis ran third to Cylinder Beach in the Toowoomba Cup (2000m) two back in an eye-catching run before her close sixth when only two lengths beaten in the Tails Stakes.
She gets a very similar draw this weekend and has Jeff Byrne coming on for the ride who will be working not to have her over-racing from the wide gate like she did last start.
Punta Norte is another local hope, the Robert Heathcote-trained Street Sense five-year-old a three-time winner from six runs over Saturday’s distance who ticks a number of boxes.
His lead-up run produced a 1500m Eagle Farm win on April 29 under 59.5kg and the gelding will be flying coming back to 54kg for this.
The best of the rest include the Brian Smith-trained runner-up to Punta Norte last time out Chivadahlii ($8) and Beatniks ($8.50) for Steven O’Dea out to improve on his sixth at the Gold Coast last Saturday in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m).
