The build-up to the Queensland Derby starts in earnest at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday with a field of three-year-old stayers facing off in the 2017 Gunsynd Classic, betting tips and the latest odds on the Group 3 found below.

The major support act on the Victory Stakes Day card, this season’s $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m) is set to run as Eagle Farm Race 7 at 3:47pm (AEST).

Ten hopefuls heading towards the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) on June 10 are in the mix with the latest Gunsynd Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au clearly led by Dreams Aplenty ($2).

Jumping from barrier two, the John Zielke-trained Dream Ahead gelding chases a fourth win on the trot and was last seen winning the Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) at his home track on April 8.

Now after successive mile victories, Dreams Aplenty also has winning form at Eagle Farm and with regular rider Tiffani Brooker in the saddle again is the form horse to beat in Saturday’s Group 3 from the gun gate.

The other best in Gunsynd Classic betting this season include the Stuart Kendrick-trained Written Tycoon colt Spring Tycoon ($4) coming off a Toowoomba Guineas second, early market mover Kubis ($7.50) and Violate ($9.50) looking to frank the Sydney form lines.

#3 Spring Tycoon ($4)

Nice price on offer for this well-bred colt from the Sunshine Coast to turn the tables on his last start conqueror after going down narrowly to Dreams Aplenty in Toowoomba. The local had the track advantage there, but at Eagle Farm Spring Tycoon can return to winning form with previous success over the track and distance. Damian Browne continues his association and will get a lovely run from barrier three.

#1 Dreams Aplenty ($2)

Hard to ignore the flying lead-up form of the favourite who’ll be right in the finish again after posting three straight wins. Group 2 performed in Melbourne, has won over 1400m at Eagle Farm by over two lengths and the Toowoomba Guineas success last time out was solid. Easing in the markets so becoming betting value and from gate two will take some beating.

#5 Realing ($11)

Best of the double-figure hopes after the upset is Matthew Dunn’s proven miler who can surprise with a gun late run getting the cheap sectionals from the inside alley. Is second-up and the resuming seventh was better than it looks on paper. Will relish getting the mile at Eagle Farm off the 1350m Doomben run, eats up the extra distance and gets more room at the track.
