The sole Group race running around the country this weekend is Queensland’s Sunshine Coast Guineas 2016, betting tips for the three-years-old showdown on Caloundra Cup Day detailed below.

Due to run as Caloundra Race 5 at 2:37pm (AEST) there are 14 youngsters left in this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) field after the early withdrawal of Bold Avenue (11).

Updated Sunshine Coast Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by Kevin Kemp’s Listed Daybreak Lover (1400m) winning filly from last Saturday at Eagle Farm Sold For Song ($3.10).

She is on the quick back-up but is in strong form and goes back up to a mile after her third two back to Tsaritsa in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m).

Coming into gate 11, in-form apprentice James Orman sticks aboard the daughter of Collate who has a strong Sunshine Coast track record (2-1-1-0) and chases her fourth win at start number nine this weekend.

The other best fancied to take out the Group 3 mile showdown on Saturday are the Michael Moroney-trained Tivaci ($3.60) who Damian Browne rides from barrier two on the back of a luckless sixth in the Queensland Guineas last time out and market mover High Spirit ($6.50) one on his outside in gate three for Peter & Paul Snowden.

So can Sold For Song hold off the colts and geldings and score successive Queensland stakes wins or is there value tipping an upset Sunshine Coast Guineas result from the likes of the rails-drawn Mr Individual ($10) who will be going forward from the barrier or Reneged ($11) who is two-from-four over the 1600m?

#12 Sold For Song ($3.10)

She is short in betting but still at a backable price to handle the seven day turnaround and win again after handling herself nicely with a fast-finishing Daybreak Lover victory last Saturday. She was third in the Queensland Guineas before that over a mile, which she is back up to here, and the wider alley looks ideal under the current track conditions. She is also a gun at the Sunny Coast track and has the form and class to suggest she’ll salute for the punters.

#6 High Spirit ($6.50)

Money coming in for this visiting Sydney-trained High Chaparral colt who comes off a close fourth as a 31/1 shot in the Queensland Guineas. He did it from barrier 13 last start but is in three for this with Kerrin McEvoy coming aboard. Has had three starts at the distance for two runs in the top three, is running well and on the improve.

#9 Reneged ($11)

Jumping from barrier five is the John Thompson-trained Mossman colt who is out to improve on his Queensland Guineas seventh last time out. Was beaten only 2.2 lengths, but won two of his previous three 1600m runs before that including here at Caloundra in late May by a runaway 2.5 lengths. Back at the track he can finish in the money.
