This weekend in Brisbane the headline race on the Eagle Farm card is the Tattersall’s Tiara 2016, betting tips for the season’s final Group 1 found below.
A final field of 15 fillies and mares take to the track in Eagle Farm Race 8 at 3:17pm (AEST) on Saturday in the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) run under weight-for-age conditions.
Originally there were 16 final acceptors, but Robert Smerdon has scratched his Snippetson filly My Poppette (16) from the mix after she drew the outside alley leaving Blueberry Hill as the sole three-year-old in the line-up.
Sitting top of the Tattersall’s Tiara field and betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a short $2.45 and firming for the win is Azkadellia.
She is prepared by last year’s winning trainer Ciaron Maher who saluted with his Stradbroke champ Srikandi in the same race 12 months ago.
Four-year-old Azkadellia jumped favourite in the Stradbroke last time out but got onto the wrong part of the track and finished 10th.
The bookies say she’ll atone when back against her own kind on Saturday and she is dominating Tattersall’s Tiara betting.
Three of her rivals are also under $10 for the win including Kris Lees’ flying mare from Sydney Danish Twist ($5) who jumps from barrier one and shoots for her fifth straight win.
The next best in the Tattersall’s Tiara odds are then recent Robert Sangster Stakes winner Precious Gem ($7.50) and the David Pfieffer-trained Cradle Me ($8) who won the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) here on June 11.
So will Azkadellia salute for the punters or is there an upset Tattersall’s Tiara result on the cards from one of the longer priced runners in the field?
1st
#2 Danish Twist ($5)
Going for the upset and tipping the Sydney form of Lees’ flying Dane Shadow mare Danish Twist to stack up in the Sunshine State on Saturday. She has won her for most recent runs including the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone. Showed her talent dropping back to 1100m in the June Stakes at Randwick to win a fortnight back and will thrive getting back up to her pet distance this weekend. From eight runs over 1400m she has four wins, three seconds and a third. She also has Hugh Bowman on for this and gate one, which is the only issue. Still her form is very hard to knock and she’ll be right in it at a still backable price.
2nd
#1 Azkadellia ($2.45)
Deserving favourite, Maher’s Group 1 winner has the class factor and is out to atone for the luckless Stradbroke loss as the beaten favourite. She’s drawn wider for this (11) and that gate looks ideal keeping her out of trouble. Nick Hall takes the mount, and even though she goes up 2.5kg she is back to her own gender here and can prove she’s worth the price at a distance she enjoys (5-2-2-0).
3rd
#13 Onemorezeta ($51)
Big, big value in Lees’ other runner who looks way over the odds. Two back in the Dark Jewel she was 1.5 lengths away second to her stablemate Danish Twist who is the second favourite for Saturday’s Group 1 and our tip to win. If she can repeat a similar run there’s nothing to suggest she won’t finish in the money. She also has the extra Eagle Farm run on the record having crossed fourth only 2.2 lengths off Cradle Me in the Dane Ripper from gate 11 as a $41 roughie. She only has to improve a tad to get in the Trifecta here over the same track / distance at a similar price, and barrier 15 is better than it looks on paper considering three of the past four Tiara winners jumped from 14 or wider.
