JJ Atkins Next for BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes Winner Attention

Attention has completed an ideal lead-in to the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) in a fortnight with a classy performance for success in this afternoon’s Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse.

Attention continued to drift in BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes betting markets as punters rallied around Souchez today, but the colt gave his chances a real boost when jumping well and settling on the heels of early leader Dreams Aplenty, as the Godolphin favourite missed the start completely.

Rounding onto the final straight on the rails, jockey Blake Shinn allowed the son of Stratum time to steady before asking for an extra effort and was greeted with a huge turn of foot; the two-year-old savaging the line half a length ahead of Dreams Aplenty; Nikitas running on for third.

Shinn delivered a typically smart performance aboard Attention to win the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes but was quick to lay all of the praise on the training efforts of Peter and Paul Snowden in the success.

“The pace of the race last time was a little bit slow and it developed into a sprint home, and I think the step up to 1350m today was perfect, Shinn said.

“He’s a little bit fitter and I think I had a little bit more confidence just knowing the way this track is playing, we were able to dominate from the front.

“It was a great effort. He’s an imposing horse, a great looking two-year-old and I’m just the lucky one to get the ride on these babies.

“Full credit to Team Snowden, they’ve pulled him up from an autumn prep in Sydney, given him a freshen-up and up here to Brisbane which isn’t easy to do.”

Paul Snowden was pleased with Attention’s performance for success in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and is hopeful the colt can make another successful step up in class and distance to the JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm in two weeks’ time.

“Its been a very fruitful season for the stable, through classic hard work and the connections,”

“We thought we wouldn’t hand up the lead today if we didn’t have to and we weren’t afraid to do that, so its worked out lovely.

“He summed it up in the first furlong and a half, put him to sleep, relaxed well and he was always going to give a good kick.

“He seems to settle a great deal better in his races now which is showing and off the back of that, he can really sustain a run and I don’t think a mile is going to hurt him.

“He’s still hitting his peak run and hopefully that’s in two weeks’ time.”
