2016 Gunsynd Classic Field and Barrier Draw

Fourteen three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1630m) at Doomben Racecourse, highlighted by a number of runners targeting Group 1 feature races during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Peter and Paul Snowden have a good opinion of Tap This, and have confirmed the filly in the 2016 Gunsynd Classic field this morning.

Posting two wins and as many minors through her eight career starts so far, Tap This immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when debuting for success in the Capital One Real Estate Maiden (1200m) in March last year before finishing third amongst classy company in the Pro-Ride Plate (1400m) a fortnight later.

Resuming this time for a dominant win in the Floratine BM67 (1200m) on March 20th, the Tapit filly was luckless in running when eighth in the Group 3 JB Carr Stakes (1400m) last time but appears as though she’s searching for a mile.

Liam Birchley has unearthed a potential stable star in Havasay, who will likely require luck in running to win the Gunsynd Classic after drawing the awkward barrier 13.

Resuming this time for second in each of the Surfers Paradise Marriott Maiden (1200m) and Sky Racing Handicap (1200m), Havasay broke through for his first win in the Southport RSL Maiden (1200m) before repeating the dose in the TKM Construction Group Plate (1400m) on March 3rd.

Having since placed second in each of the Andrew Goves 40th Birthday Handicap (1350m) and Toowoomba Guineas (1625m), Havasay is primed for a big performance in the Gunsynd Classic.

Dawnie Perfect is yet to make much of an impact this time but is sure to relish a step-back in class to Brisbane three-year-old company in the Gunsynd Classic.

A standout for Clarry Conners in spring, Dawnie Perfect won the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) before finishing fourth in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) most notably.

Having failed to handle a soft track in either of the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) or JB Carr Stakes so-far, the Big Brown filly is another horse that will enjoy a step up to a mile on Saturday.

Desleigh Forster-trained stable mates Too Good To Refuse (barrier 12), I’m Belucci (barrier 8) and Cylinder Beach (barrier 4) have all been confirmed in the Gunsynd Classic field.

Robert Heathcote’s Kuttamurra Al will leave from the rails draw, while the Kelly Schweida-trained Flying Labelle has been charged with overcoming has been charged with overcoming the outside alley.
