Some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s most exciting three-year-old filly prospects will kick off their black type campaigns in Saturday’s Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) on the Sunshine Coast; a race that subsequently represents terrific value to punters.
Queen Of Wands has returned to racing in slick form this time and remains outright $3 favourite in 2016 Princess Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Kebede ($4.40) and Look To The Stars ($6.50).
Will Queen Of Wands produce another smart performance and return to winning form in the Princess Stakes, or will one of her rivals find the line first?
Look To The Stars is a proven Queensland performer and should find a great position in transit from barrier 11. Winner of the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) before placing third in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m), Look To The Stars failed to fire through a short spring campaign but ran on well for eighth in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) on April 9th. Blake Spriggs retains the ride on the daughter of Myboycharlie, who while yet to contest a race over 1800m, appears as though she will enjoy a step up in distance.
Queen Of Wands has fast stamped herself as one to watch for veteran trainer Clarry Conners through a short racing career and carries great form into the 2016 Alexandra Stakes. Resuming this time for fifth in the talent-rich Strathayr Newmarket Plate (1200m) on March 1st, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt responded in great fashion; winning her next two starts including the TAB Rewards BM67 (1400m)by two lengths on March 23rd. Having made a good transition to black type company when third in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Day 1 of The Championships.
Kebede has fast become the stable star for Murwillumbah-based trainer Matt Dunn and while yet to be tested at the grade, is arguably the formed runner of the Princess Stakes field. Returning to the paddock after running second in the Rosie Eccles Maiden Plate (1350m)in November, Kebede is yet to taste anything but success this time, having taken out each of the Yamba Bowling Club Maiden (1200m), Fuso Trucks Handicap (1400m) and Secutor Securities Handicap (1350m) leading into the Princess Stakes.
