2015 Melbourne Cup Exotics Payouts & Results

The official Melbourne Cup 2015 finishing order is now complete with the famous Flemington Race 7 run and won for another spring, Darren Weir’s $101 roughie Prince Of Penzance scoring the upset win, the full exotic payouts and betting results for the ‘race that stops a nation’ detailed here.

This year’s $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) jumped just after its official 3:00pm (AEST) scheduled time with a capacity field of 24 horses in the mix.

Despite the dominance in both the field and betting markets of the international raiders, it was a New Zealand-bred, Australian-trained galloper that stole the show.

From the inside alley, Weir’s Pentire six-year-old Prince Of Penzance barley got a mention throughout the race call of the world’s richest handicap until the final 300m in running when he burst clear and charged to the line for the upset win over Max Dynamite (2nd) and Criterion (3rd).

Jockey Michelle Payne also entered the Melbourne Cup history books as the first ever female hoop to guide a Melbourne Cup winner to victory, thrilled with the way things opened up for her from the 1000m where she took the trail up behind Ed Dunlop’s British raider Trip To Paris.

The Ascot Gold Cup winner and second favourite in Melbourne Cup betting eventually crossed two lengths off the winner in fourth rounding out this year’s Melbourne Cup First Four, but all the honours went to Payne and Prince Of Penzance who crossed the line a half-length clear of William Mullins’ Irish visitor Max Dynamite.

Race favourite was the Japanese-trained Fame Game who could only manage to run five and a half lengths away 13th, while the only other single figure hope in betting outside him and Trip To Paris being the Chris Waller-trained Preferment who ran a disappointing 20th.

Three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up having his fifth start in the classic, Red Cadeaux, failed to finish sustaining a suspected fetlock injury to his left foreleg in the final stages of the event.

He was immediately transferred to the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic at Werribee with an update on his condition to be provided by Racing Victoria once known.
