Four Group status races highlight the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival action at Morphettville on the weekend including the Queen Of The South Stakes 2015, betting tips for the fillies-and-mares’ mile showdown detailed below.
This year’s $175,000 Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) runs as Race 6 at 3:18pm (SA time) on Robert Sangster Stakes Day, and 13 female milers are set to face off.
Markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Marianne ($3.70) who comes off two nice thirds back in Melbourne, including behind Amorino in the Listed Anniversary Vase (1400m) last start on April 18.
Her main dangers according to the bookies are then the market mover Atlantis Dream ($6) who has run second in three of her previous four starts over the mile, the John Sadler-trained Japhils ($6.50) coming off a win in the Listed Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks from last Saturday and Robbie Griffiths’ Girl In Flight ($6.50) – the trio drawn in the outside far three barriers 11, 12 and 13 respectively.
So will one of the best in betting get the job done for the punters or is there more value to be found further down the Queen Of The South Stakes betting markets from the likes of Ava’s Delight ($11) or Bippo No Bungus ($9.50) drawn better in barriers two and three?
She’s the firm favourite and we’re tipping things to come up for the punters in the sixth on Saturday in Adelaide. Barrier six and Hugh Bowman are two ticks for the consistent Darci Brahma four-year-old whose past three runs in Melbourne have produced three black-type placings. Two of those were in Group company behind Noble Protector, imposing form indeed. Group 2 placed over the mile, she’s back up in distance after a close third over 1400m at Caulfield and will be hard to hold out as she looks to continue her good record (3-1-1-1).
Plenty of genuine hopes at good odds including Neville Parnham’s Perth-trained Dubawi five-year-old having her incredible 40th career start. The winning strike rate is poor with just four wins to date, but she’s been firing on all cylinders this autumn. Last start was a fourth in the Anniversary Vase, form the bookies rate, when beaten only 1.55 lengths after jumping from barrier 10 of 14. She’ll get a better run this weekend from barrier three, Chris Parnham staying on, and with the right luck she’ll be challenging.
Is another of the widely-drawn hopes that didn’t draw a gate, but whose form is too good to look past. Sadler’s Choisir filly has the breeding and the black-type win last time out in Adelaide. She takes on the older rivals here, but she won the Listed Nitschek at the Parks only last Saturday by over two lengths over 1400m. Yet to get out over 1600m, but the way she finished off on Anzac Day suggests she’ll eat up the metres.
