Outsider Sir Moments has produced an exceptional turn of foot to cut through the middle of the field in the final straight and win the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m) in a fanning finish at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse this afternoon.

Jumping only fairly, the Choisir gelding settled well within the pack nearly seven lengths off the pace of early leaders Ryker, Dothraki and Havana who set a noticeably quick tempo over the final straight and rounding the bend.
Finding the straight blocked for a run and in awkward position, Sir Moments began to thread through the field, finding a clear run and poking through to beat Liberty’s Choice and Ryker on the line by a short nose.
Trainer Steven O’Dea was understandably thrilled with Sir Moments’ performance in the 2014 Queensland Guineas, and is excited with his winning potential leading into future preparations.
“He was in behind a wall of horses and I did say to myself I knew this was going to happen from the good gate,” O’Dea said immediately after the triumph.
“To his credit he just kept picking up and picking up and he ran through the line really strong.
“Even now he’s just a big baby still and he’s going to furnish even more as he gets older and I think he’ll run even further too.”
Jockey Tim Bell delivered an exceptional ride on Sir Moment in the 2014 Queensland Guineas, and was pleased to have taken the ride having also considered alternate options.
“A bit of an interrupted run throughout stages, but I knew the quality of horse I was on today and his run last start had a lot of credit to it,” Bell said immediately after the race.
“I was sort of tossing up between riding another runner in the races and he said you’re going to get off my best horse to ride something that can’t win, and I said how about I rode your horse and we’ll get a first Group race together.”
Securing a fourth win in just his ninth competitive appearances in the 2014 Queensland Guineas, Sir Moments has more than stamped his claims as one to watch throughout the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
