Earthquake Continues Perfect Career Start in 2014 Reisling Stakes

Leading two-year-old Earthquake has continued her perfect career start at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon, leading from nearly start to finish to comfortably claim the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) and compound favouritism for the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in two weeks’ time.

Jumping from the gates well, Earthquake was quickly led to the front by jockey Kerrin McEvoy ahead of classy filly Mossfun, Sheezalady and Twirl, upping the tempo rounding the bend and producing a typically strong sprint to finish a length in the clear of Mossfun and rank outsider Alpha Miss.

Trainer Peter Snowden was happy with yet another polished performance from the Exceed And Excel filly in the 2014 Reisling Stakes.

“There again it showed just how good she is” Snowden said following the race.

“To go and lead the whole way like she did and beat fair horses and beat them well shows you what sort of talent she’s got.”

Only two weeks shy of her major target; the Golden Slipper, Snowden said Earthquake is by no means a sure thing for success in the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, but is continuing to prepare ideally.

“Two weeks doesn’t sound long, but it’s a long time for a two year old” he added.

“The good thing about this filly is she is just so good to train; she’s really bomb proof.

“She’s a pleasure to have in the stable; she’s no problem, she eats, there’s no pressure on her at home and fingers crossed for two weeks.

“She hasn’t received any favours in any of her runs really, she’s had to make her own luck but a good horse can do that.”

Kerrin McEvoy delivered a sensational ride on Earthquake this afternoon, partnering the two-year-old for the first time after injury ruled him out of the successful Blue Diamond Prelude and Blue Diamond Stakes rides.

“She’s an athletic filly as we can all see and she’s a pleasure to ride” McEvoy said after dismounting.

“She sort of really bounced and towed me forward and I was just going to see what the two Waterhouse horses did (Twirl and Sheezalady).

“We had a bit of an open plan just to see, but would have been nice to get a lead.

“She had the class to tow me forward and get into a spot and relax and she was too good for them.

“It’s good to see them come up to Sydney and race this way again and do it nicely, because she’s showed us she’s a happy horse at home

“She’s got an old head on young shoulders and that’s what really helps these two-year-olds.”

Earthquake has now well and truly gained favouritism in betting markets for the Golden Slipper, having easily continued her perfect career start this afternoon.
