Talented sprinter Moment Of Change will be aiming for three-consecutive Group 1 victories in Caulfield events today when lining up for the 2014 Futurity Stakes (1400m).
Having claimed the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) in the spring of 2012, the Barely A Moment gelding did not return to Caulfield competitively until two weeks ago, when winning the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) from a fast finishing Eurozone and 2013 Cox Plate champion Shamus Award.
Following a good hit-out at trainer Peter Moody’s Caulfield stables earlier this week, Managing Owner Rob Slade told TVN Moment Of Change is in peak form leading into the Futurity Stakes this afternoon.
“He worked really well on Tuesday and he’s improved since the Orr, which means the others will have had to improve as well if they are going to beat him” Slade said.
Gai Waterhouse-trained Bull Point experienced something of a meteoric rise to prominence throughout his consistent 2013 spring campaign, eventually ending the memorable run when third behind Zoustar and Dissident in the Group 1 Golden Rose.
Slade is confident the form of Moment Of Change will be enough to overcome the strong claims of Bull Point, who has received huge support since betting markets first opened on Wednesday and will jump as clear favourite.
“Everyone seems to be talking up the three-year-old (Bull Point), but I know Peter is very happy with our horse and that means we’re happy too” Slade added.
Producing a particularly consistent 2013 spring campaign which included an unlucky second behind Buffering in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) on November 23rd, Moment Of Change was widely expected to claim the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) first-up in January but was unable to withstand a late charge by Richie’s Vibe, finishing a disappointing second.
Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering Moment Of Change as clear second favourite for the 2014 Futurity Stakes at a quote of $3.30, with Bull Point featured as the $2.60 favourite and market mover.
