Gai Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper winner Overreach heads a classy list of 196 three-year-old fillies making up the Thousand Guineas 2013 nominations for this year’s spring showdown.

The $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) lights up Caulfield Racecourse on Wednesday October 16 just a few days after the colts and geldings face off in their own classic – the $1 million Group 1 The BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

There are plenty of talented fillies in the mix for the Thousand Guineas this year with Waterhouse looking to dominate with a team of 13 including her Slipper winner Overreach.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel was last seen finishing third behind Guelph and Scandiva in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Among her notable stablemates also on the Thousand Guineas path are Certitiude, Greytfilly, Shahad and Golden Slipper third place-getter Sweet Idea who also won the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes last season.

ATC Sires Produce Stakes winner Guleph meanwhile is also nominated for the Guineas as is runner-up, the Anthony Cummings-trained Scandiva.

Guelph is one of only four entries for Peter Snowden that also includes Street Cry filly Metastasio and is a dual Group 1 champion having also won the Champagne Stakes over the mile on Sydney Cup Day.

The VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner is also nominated with the Bjorn Baker-trained Twilight Royale looking to make her mark as a three-year-old after an excellent juvenile season in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Another big Group 1 winner in the Thousand Guineas running is then Blue Diamond Stakes champion Miracles Of Life.

Dan Clarken’s fairytale filly won the summer feature back in February retaining an undefeated status having now won all four of her career starts.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt hasn’t raced since the Diamond however, with her race return eagerly anticipated.

Last year’s Thousand Guineas winner was the Leon Corstens-trained Commanding Jewel.

He’ll be back in 2013 seeking back-to-back trophies with a team of five including Berning Affair and Judicial Rock.

Other notable Thousand Guineas fillies include last Saturday’s smart Moonee Valley winner Gregers (David Hayes), Blue Diamond Preview runner-up Diamond Glow (Peter Moody) and New Zealand raider Ruud Awakening (Stephen Marsh).
