Lindsey Smith’s progressive young filly Fuddle Dee Duddle will be looking to win successive stakes races at Ascot this Super Saturday when the daughter of Red Ransom takes on the boys in the WA Guineas 2013.
One of three big features on the Perth race card for this Saturday, the $350,000 Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) is shaping up as an intriguing showdown this year with two three-year-olds battling for favouritism in the pre-field markets with WA Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Luke’s Luck and the Grant Williams-trained Antique Belle.
A little further down the WA Guineas odds but still a top fancy is then Fuddle Dee Duddle who comes off a win over her own kind in the Group 3 Champion Stakes (1600m) last Saturday, an impressive performance where she came from the back of the pack to break her black-type maiden.
While she may be on a short back-up racing again this Saturday but their Casuarina-based trainer Smith is confident Fuddle Dee Duddle can bring some stiff competition to the colts and geldings in the Guineas.
“She will be kept bright and sharp during the week,” part-owner Eddie Rigg said.
“She does too well in the stable and will back up well.”
If she brings her A-game on Saturday there is also a chance Fuddle Dee Duddle will then continue onto the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) back at the track on December 8.
Having been ridden by Paul Harvey for her two most recent runs Fuddle Dee Duddle will be fitted with a new rider for the Kingston Town should she go all the way with Harvey unable to get down to the 50kg she would carry under the weight-for-age conditions of the Group 1.
“It is disappointing Paul won’t be able to ride her in the Classic,” Rigg said.
“We think she will go really well in the Classic and will be searching for the best jockey. The 1800m will suit her much better.”
Final acceptances revealing the WA Guineas field, as well as those for the day’s two Group 1 features the Railway and Winterbottom Stakes, are due to be taken at 12:00pm (WST) time today.
