While the action of the Sydney Autumn Carnival continues at Randwick this Saturday with AJC Derby Day, South Australia’s Morphettville Parks Racecourse is also set to host an exciting race meet headlined by two Group races one of which is the $115,000 Group 3 South Australian Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).
A set weights race for two-year-olds, the 2011 SA Sires Produce Stakes final field features 11 promising juveniles lead by the John Keys-trained Triple Asset.
The best tried runner of the field having had seven starts, Nadeem filly Triple Asset is coming off three successive wins including back-to-back Group victories.
On March 12 she scored a narrow win over Metonymy in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington before her last start victory by an impressive three lengths in the Group 3 The Janz (1200m) at Morphettville.
Triple Asset has drawn ideally with barrier two for Saturday and based on her red hot form should start the favourite for the Sires Produce.
Another last-start winner in this year’s SA Sires Produce Stakes is Peter Moody’s Choisir filly Cute Emily.
Unbeaten in her two starts to date, Cute Emily is coming off a 1200m win at Caulfield and has come up trumps with the inside running from barrier one for Saturday.
“She’s exceeded our expectations this preparation,” Jeff O’Conner, Moody’s stable manager, said.
“We took her to Stawell on debut where she won a weak one before coming to town and winning at Caulfield.
“We found the right race, it fell away a bit and she raced a lot better and truer than what she did the first time.”
Other notable runners in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes with the ability to claim an upset include the Darren Weir-trained Cash Bound (barrier seven), Encosta De Lago gelding Win For Wilson (barrier five) coming off a second to Triple Asset in The Janz and locally-trained filly Gonski Girl (barrier nine).
