Despite today’s results in the Reisling Stakes and the Todman Stakes Karuta Queen has continued to drift in 2011 Golden Slipper betting markets.

Karuta Queen was easily the biggest name in the Golden Slipper field to not be seen in action at Rosehill on Coolmore Classic day, instead running in Canberra last Sunday.

She was a huge favourite in that race before amazingly being beaten in a boilover, with You’re Canny eventually claiming the Listed Black Opal Stakes.

At the time this sent the odds of Karuta Queen skyward, hitting figures around $13 on most bookmakers.

After today’s upset at Rosehill with Sepoy being beaten by Smart Missile and Satin Shoes going down to Elite Falls a lot of the field closed the gap on Sepoy who still retains favouritsm at $3.

However the Neville Layt trained filly didn’t experience the same result with punters obviously decided the level of performance on show at Rosehill far outweighed that in Canberra, even from the horses which didn’t win.

Karuta Queen is now the furtherest back she’s been in early Golden Slipper betting in sixth place paying $16.

Also playing against her is the fact runners beaten in the Black Opal have an atrocious record when running in the Golden Slipper.

Still, it’s worth remembering it was the first ever loss for this filly and she does have a week longer than the majority of her competition to prepare for this race.

She’s also a horse which usually wins her races by around two lengths so there will be plenty willing to forgive that one run.

We think she could be dangerous come the Golden Slipper with a lot of people understandably ignoring her after her lead up events differed so much from the main group in the field.

It will be interesting to see if her odds do come in because $16 for a horse which has only lost a single race seems almost too good to be true.
