Do Ra Mi puts in an amazing run to win the 2011 Kewney Stake
After running second to Southern Speed as the beaten favourite in the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) here last-start on February 19, Savabeel filly Do Ra Mi produced one of the best rides of the day to claim a dominant come-from-behind win in the Kewney Stakes.
The winners’ stablemate Zelsnitz was one of the first out of the gates and hit the lead early with Moody’s third runner Willow Creek settling into second driving hard in the first stages of the race.
Zelsnitz maintained the front run until there was but 200m to go when the punters’ favourite, resuming Crown Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse made her move.
Coming up fast, Brazilian Pulse eased into the clear to race into the lead looking the winner.
But on the far outside it was Do Ra Mi who made up all the ground, ridden cold right up until the final 100m when she raced like she’d only run half the distance of her rivals.
On the line Do Ra Mi ($14) won pulling away to finish a good two lengths clear of favourite Brazilian Pulse ($3.20) while the Peter Snowden-trained Divorces ($8) finished off the winning Kewney Stakes Trifecta in third.
Ridden off the speed in a well judged ride from jockey Michael Walker today, Do Ra Mi produced outstanding late sectionals to come from nowhere and score a dominant win.
The tempo suited the filly who waited them out before displaying her devastating turn of foot, let down late to quickly run away for the Group 2 win trainer Moody knew she had in her.
A trip to Sydney to possibly tackle a Group 1 before the end of autumn is now on the agenda for Do Ra Mi, who has now won three of her seven career starts.
The race fans and punters have been waiting for is up next with Black Caviar sure to destroy her rivals in the 2011 Newmarket Handicap.
