Parables wins the 2011 Surround Stakes at Warwick Farm
The big surprise of the race was the raging hot favourite #1 More Strawberries being ridden by top jockey Nash Rawiller finishing out of the placings in the nine horse field.
The Gai Waterhouse trained horse was backed well into odds on territory but never fired a shot in the race and was beaten into third by #7 Rose Of Peace which opened as a 100 to 1 chance.
Take nothing away from Parables though with a fantastic effort running wide around the turn and spending more than half the race with no cover.
When they had straightened though she had the run out wide and the pack couldn’t follow her as she went past the leaders.
She showed plenty of guts in the closing stages and won the race comfortably enough despite pulling up a bit in the final 100m.
Putting a little bit of pressure on late was #3 Red Tracer which has now not missed a place in nine career starts and would have won the race comfortably had Parables not been in the field.
As we mentioned third home in surprising style was Rose Of Peace which took a bit of late backing in from triple figures to jump at $61 on Luxbet.
The race belonged to Parables and jockey Rodd Quinn though who has made the most of his opportunity, only getting the ride after Corey Brown’s injury yesterday.
You will definitely be seeing plenty more of Parables throughout the carnival so make a note of this performance, also worth keeping an eye on the consistent Red Tracer as well.
