The next Group 1 showdown of the Melbourne Cup Carnival is set to take place at Flemington today, with the $1 million Crown Oaks (2500m) taking centre stage on ‘Ladies Day’, the 2010 Crown Oaks field featuring a star line-up of three-year-old fillies.
Thirteen fillies make up the Crown Oaks field this year with Wakeful Stakes winner Brazilian Pulse opening as the clear favourite, currently paying $3.50 at Luxbet.
Wakeful Stakes runner-up Placement is also backing up in the Crown Oaks on Saturday, as is third placegetter Heartsareforlove.
Drawn ideally in barrier three and coming off some consistent spring form, the Danny O’Brien-trained Placement is at a generous $10 quote in the Crown Oaks odds and looks well positioned to cause an upset and claim her maiden win.
John Thompson’s Hussonet filly Heartsareforlove is at a longer-price of $17 through Luxbet despite her barrier one draw and recent strong runs as she is yet to win over a distance greater than 1350m and may struggle with the 2500m in the Crown Oaks.
The other runner in the Crown Oaks field that is at juicy odds is Thousand Guineas winner Yosei, abandoned by the punters after drawing wide with the far outside barrier 13 and also after failing to beat any rival home in the Myer Classic on a Heavy Flemington track last start.
Once you have picked your favourite filly for today’s showdown, make sure you lock them in at the best price by taking advantage of the Tote + 20% offer at Luxbet now!
