Peter Moody’s consistent colt Anacheeva scored an upset win on Saturday when holding off the hot favourite Toorak Toff to win the $175,000 Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield.
Winner of the McKenzie Stakes last start, Anacheeva scored another spring win on Saturday moving up the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas betting markets after the victory.
Ridden by Luke Nolen, Anacheeva ($10) defeated Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff ($2.25) by a long neck with the Peter Snowden-trained Skilled ($11) finishing third a further head away in the 2010 Caulfield Guineas Prelude.
Anacheeva is now the $8 second favourite following Toorak Toff and Spring Stakes champion Ilovethicity at $5.50 in the betting markets at Sportsbet for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas on October 9.
The other prelude run on Saturday was the Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude where Darley stable’s up-and-coming filly Divorces claimed her maiden win.
