Launcestion in Tasmania will run a bumper 9 races today, while Seymour in Victoria, Newcastle in New South Wales and York in Western Australia will each run 8 races. Port Augusta in South Australia is running 7 races today and Rockhampton in Queensland has 6 races on the card.
The feature race meeting today is the Newcastle God Cup Day at Broadmeadow Racecourse, Newcastle, the final day of the two-day Newcastle Spring Racing Carnival. The main event of the day is Race 7, the Group 3 $185,000 Newcastle Gold Cup over 2,300 metres, which will start at 16:40 (AEST). With a capacity final field of 16, the horses to look for are Chris Waller’s in-form gelding Hawk Island who has drawn wide though in barrier 12, Chris Waller’s second prospect Snow Alert, Tim Martin-trained Scouting Wide who has drawn ideally in barrier 3 and the Gai Waterhouse trained Stratofortress who will jump from barrier 1.
