Saturday’s Randwick Guineas Won by Shoot Out

Brilliant three-year-old Shoot Out scored a magnificent and hard earned win at Randwick on Saturday when he overcame all odds and a quality field of rivals to score in the $350, 000 Group 1 Randwick Guineas.

Shoot Out went into the race as the $3 top elect but had favourite backers holding their breaths throughout the 1600m gallop after he missed the start.

Following his slow get away from barrier five, Shoot Out proceeded to have a terrible run settling worse than mid-field and getting caught up.

All looked lost, especially when Shoot Out stumbled and nearly fell around the 250m. Then the High Chaparral gelding, ridden by Stathi Katsidis, found an opening and went full charge in an unexpected explosion of speed and determination.

Shoot Out displayed a tremendous will to win, overtaking the three leaders over the final 200m and coming away with an impressive 1/2 length victory ahead of Gai Waterhouse’s Viking Legend ($12) and Captain Sonador ($12).

Shoot Out’s win gave Gold Coast based trainer John Wallace his first Group 1 victory since Mother Of Pearl’s Queensland Oaks win back in 1982.
