David Payne-trained Centennial Park secured the last win of Derby Day in the Group 3 AAMI Business Insurance Stakes (1400m).
Mark De Montfort’s short-priced favourite at $4.40, Mcclintock charged from the gates to lead the race early and looked the one to win until a late burst by Centennial Park.
Last year’s Melbourne Cup winning jockey Blake Shinn put in a gutsy ride to bring Centennial Park over the line first by a nose over Mcclintock in a photo finish.
Royal Ida and Sniper’s Bullet finished in a dead heat for third in the 16 horse field.
It was a hard race to select the winner for with the field full of Group 2 and 3 winners at the 1400m distance.
