The $3million Cox Plate is without doubt the showcase event at Moonee Valley this Saturday. However, there are a number of other excellent races due to be held at the meeting that are attracting standout sprinters and stayers.
Other events taking place on the day include the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) and the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m).
The Moonee Valley Cup is possibly the last chance the entries will have to elevate themselves into contention for the Melbourne Cup on November 3. The majority of the 28 entries need a victory in this event to secure a start at Flemington.
Bart Cummings-trained Dandaad and Think Money are the first and second Geelong Cup emergencies tomorrow, but if they don’t get in then they will be aimed at the Moonee Valley Cup as a back-up.
Notable entries for the Schweppes Stakes this year include Light Fantastic, Apache Cat, Danleigh, Duporth, Lucky Secret, Mic Mac and Ortensia.
