The list of Victoria Derby winners reads like the who’s who of Australian racing with many of the country’s premier thoroughbreds taking out the time-honoured classic during their three-year-old racing season.
Many great horses have won the Victoria Derby over the years including Phar Lap (1929), Nothin’ Leica Dane (1995), Elvstorem (2003), Efficient (2006), and Fireworks who is the only three-year-old to win the Derby twice back in 1867 and 1868.
The last filly to win the Victoria Derby was Frances Tressady back in 1923 after the first three editions of the race were won by fillies from 1855-57.
