The Ballarat Turf Club is located just 15km north-west of the Ballarat CBD and was established in 1854. The Club holds 30 race meets each season, the most races in any regional grass circuit in Victoria.

The biggest race at the track is the 2200m listed open handicap Ballarat Cup in November. This is the final feature event of the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival and is worth $130,000 in prize money. The club also holds midweek races on various days throughout the year as well as the Christmas Party Race Day, Family Fun Race Day and the Winter in the Forest Races.

Known for its steeple and hurdle races as well, Ballarat has both a new and old track with a capacity of 18 horses on the field. The track is anticlockwise and features a 1900m circumference and a 450m straight.
