Money is coming for the Darren Weir-trained Ken’s Dream to score a Group 3 upset on Wednesday in the Blue Sapphire Stakes 2016 at Caulfield Racecourse over race favourite Flying Artie.

Heading the mid-week racing action that kicks off the Caulfield Cup Carnival, this year’s lucrative $350,000 Group 3 Catanach’s Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) originally attracted a final field of 13.

The early scratching of the widely-drawn Team Hawkes-trained Palladian (12) however leaves a dozen hopefuls, the updated Blue Sapphire Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the Mick Price-trained Flying Artie.

Jumping from a gun barrier four draw with ace hoop Damien Oliver booked for the ride, Artie Schiller colt Flying Artie is paying $2.20 to win his three-year-old debut.

The early Blue Sapphire Stakes betting market mover however is Ken’s Dream ($6 into $5), drawn one wider in gate five with Dean Yendall to ride.

Yendall finally broke his Group 1 duck with an historical Spring Champion Stakes victory aboard class filly Yankee Rose in Sydney over the weekend.

He’s out to keep the feature wins going in Melbourne then on Wednesday with Weir’s Dream Ahead colt Ken’s Dream.

The up-and-comer has won two of his three career starts to date, including the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on August 20.

Last time out Ken’s Dream raced second over the same track / distance when narrowly beaten in a non-Black Type, a run he’s tipped to atone for from a better barrier on the roomier Caulfield track this week.

As for Flying Artie, he races for the first time since his brave third behind Capitalist (1^st) and Yankee Rose (2^nd) in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) in Sydney on March 19.

Before that he lined-up twice at Caulfield, where he returns first-up this week, for a win in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) and his second to stablemate Extreme Choice in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

Extreme Choice franked that form winning the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) first-up at The Valley, a race superstar international performer Chautauqua only managed to finish fourth in as the beaten odds-on favourite.

Occupying the third line of Blue Sapphire betting at $5.50 is Derryn in barrier two from the in-form Lindsay Park stables.

A nicely-bred son of Hinchinbrook, Derryn finished runner-up to subsequent Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) in Sydney two back before his 10^th in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 10.

He returns to Melbourne for the first time since a 1000m Caulfield win as a juvenile in the winter and is tipped to appreciate the Victorian way from the nice gate on Wednesday.

Rounding out the single figure fancies at $8 is Merriest who is the best fancied of the fillies taking on the boys.

The Danny O’Brien-trained daughter of Denman won the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley two back before her last start third at the same track in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m).

She has previous winning form at Caulfield and is drawn well in barrier six on Wednesday so could finish in the money.
