2015 Crown Oaks Tips & Selections

The three-year-old staying fillies steal the show at Flemington Racecourse on Thursday’s Ladies Day in the Crown Oaks 2015, betting tips and exotic selections for the classic detailed below.

Jameka

A final field of a dozen hopefuls faces off for Flemington Race 8 – the $1 million Group 1 VRC Crown Oaks (2500m) – with three dominating the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% across the entire nine race card.

Current top fancy in Crown Oaks betting is the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Sacred Eye who is yet to run worse than second in her four career runs.

She was last seen taking out the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m) back on October 17, and while she gives the fitness advantage away she is too consistent not to consider and should handle the metres.

The next best in the markets is Jameka, who has in fact firmed into equal favouritism with Sacred Eye at $3.80 after being smashed early by the punters into $3.80.

Lots of boxes ticked by the in-form daughter of Myboycharlie who trainer Ciaron Maher hopes can emulate his Crown Oaks winner from 12 months ago Set Square.

Jameka was runner-up in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) two back before her tidy one length win in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on Cox Plate Day, a race that produced last Saturday’s Derby winner Tarzino who ran third.

At $4 is then this year’s Wakeful Stakes winner Ambience for Sydney’s John O’Shea, the Street Cry filly looking to frank the form coming out of the traditional Crown Oaks lead-up race from Derby Day once again.

So can the first three in betting run the Crown Oaks trifecta on Thursday or will there be an upset in the fillies’ feature from the likes of this year’s Ethereal Stakes winner Dawnie Perfect ($14) for three-time winning trainer Clarry Conners?

Our 2015 Crown Oaks Trifecta Tip is #2 Jameka from #6 Dawnie Perfecta and #4 Ambience

1st

#2 Jameka ($3.80)

Think the money will continue to come for this flying filly prepared by Maher who shoots for back-to-back Crown Oaks victories this week. Favourites have a top record with six winning in the past 10 years, so if she sits top of the odds that is good historically. Is drawn in eight, which hasn’t produce a winner since 2008, but her lead-up form is excellent and the MV Vase form stacked up in the Derby winner Tarzino who Jameka beat home by two. If it is a wet track she’s a query, but if not she’s the one to beat.

2nd

#6 Dawnie Perfect ($14)

Good value offered for this Big Brown filly who could hand Conners with his fourth VRC Oaks win and his second in four years following Dear Demi (2012). All of his previous winners came via the Wakeful where this one was far from disgraced running fourth in with improvement possible over 500m further. She is drawn in the race’s most successful barrier (2), which produced last year’s winner. She also has Jim Cassidy on her back who has ridden five previous Oaks winners and her Ethereal Stakes win was good.

3rd

#4 Ambience ($4)

The Wakeful winners are usually best in betting, with a wide draw the only problem for this Godolphin-raced filly. Ten isn’t so bad though considering Dear Demi won from 12 in 2012 and Kirramosa saluted for the punters from 10 in 2013. Jockey James McDonald stays on and is in form, while the Wakeful win by three and a half lengths was too easy for this filly who looked like she’d run all day indicating the 2500m would be a non-issue.
