One of the key support races on the Sydney card for Saturday, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality Handicap (1400m) has drawn a final field of 10 hopefuls led by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Valentia.

Jumping from barrier six with Blake Shinn in the saddle the Fastnet Rock colt is allocated the 59kg top weight for his second-up run of the season.

Winner of the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill back in March Valentia resumed racing on August 23 here in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) also carrying 59kg that day.

On a Heavy (9) course he ran a good third behind Scissor Kick, form he’s out to improve on second-up boasting a great Randwick record (4-2-0-2) and the ability to improve stepping up to 1400m for the first time.

Also coming off a gun run in the Up & Coming Stakes is the Paul Messara-trained Panzer Division who has the outside barrier (10) to overcome on Saturday.

Carrying 55kg, a kilo more than last time out, the lightly-raced Redoute’s Choice colt will be ridden by Tye Angland who takes over for Kathy O’Hara.

One of the sure-to-be top fancies in the field meanwhile is the Gerald Ryan-trained Washington Heights who heads towards the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens Saturday week.

The Commands colt is the shortest priced of the Ming Dynasty hopes in Golden Rose betting at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $10 in markets led by Peter Moody’s smart filly Bring Me The Maid and the undefeated Bart & James Cummings-trained Hallowed Crown at $5.

On debut in April Washington Heights ran second to Hallowed Crown in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Randwick and returned on August 16 to finish second again this time behind Nostradamus in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).

He was to have run in The Run To The Rose last month but was scratched due to the conditions that saw Washington Height’s Golden Rose price ease.

“They took him right out of calculations in the markets but if he goes well on Saturday he will be in the Golden Rose,” Ryan told AAP this week.

“I had to make sure people knew that.”

The other notable 2014 Golden Rose hope racing in Saturday’s event is then the John O’Shea-trained Meursault at $15 for the Group 1.

Drawn in gate five on the weekend with Kerrin McEvoy riding the son of Medaglia D’Oro is another Up & Coming Stakes graduate but needs to improve on a sixth at just his second start.

There are then three last start winners looking to go back-to-back in the race including the Team Hawkes-trained Lady Sharapova, the daughter of Fastnet Rock there to take on the boys on the back of a 1250m Canterbury win over her own kind on August 6.
