ATC Sires Produce Stakes 2013 Odds Update – Windjammer Only Market Mover

Betting markets for this Saturday’s 2013 ATC Inglis Sires Produce Stakes remain stagnant ahead of the two-year-olds’ classic at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday, Windjammer the only mover in markets firmly led by Golden Slipper winner Overreach.

Running as the fifth on the Australian Derby Day program this year the $500,000 Group 1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) will see the exciting Gai Waterhouse-trained Exceed And Excel filly Overreach look to become the 14th juvenile to complete the Golden Slipper – ATC Sires Produce Stakes double.

Her stablemate Pierro did so 12 months ago before completing the Autumn 2YO’s Triple Crown in the Champagne Stakes over the mile and all those involved with Overreach, including owner-breeder George Altomonte, are tipping her as capable of doing the same this year.

“You don’t often get a filly as good as her,” Altomonte, who also bred 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, said.

“I think she will run the 1400m.

“I had a look at her on Sunday after the Golden Slipper and you would not have thought she had had a run.

“She recovers pretty well, eats up everything, which are all good signs.

“She’s a very smart filly. She can jump a length in front of them at the start and in a big field that is a huge advantage.

“If she is a chance to win the triple crown, we would press on.

“If she pulls up like she did after the Golden Slipper I see no reason why she wouldn’t.

“She can then have a good break over winter.”

Overreach has stayed steady at $1.60 in the ATC Sires Produce Stakes odds, a short price considering the only Golden Slipper winning fillies in history to successfully back-up in the Sires have been the once-in-a-generation Toy Show (1975), Burst (1992) who remains the sole triple crown winning filly in history and most recently Merlene (1996).

Outside of the odds-on favourite the other fancies for Saturday are Waterhouse’s emphatic last start Warwick Farm winner Florid Affair ($10), the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph ($11) who was fourth in the Slipper and Not A Single Doubt filly Villa Verde ($11) who remains the only horse to have defeated Overreach when beating her home on debut at Caulfield last October.

Windjammer meanwhile is the early market mover and while still at a very generous price they have been wound in from $34 to $31 as the Bjorn Baker-trained Bernardini colt looks to improve on their ninth in the Slipper.

They didn’t handle the Slow track there as they had their chance in all other ways and should be more competitive on Saturday looking back at their good fourth to Criterion in the Group 2 Todman Stakes leading up to the Slipper.
