Race favourite Very Discreet has won the 1100m Crown Promenade Stakes after enduring a delay caused by two horses falling in the barriers.
Conquering Queen was the first mare to become upset in the barriers and fell before losing her bridle, causing panic among race stewards.
During the ordeal, Nuclear Force remained in her barrier which caused her to stress and turn in the stall.
She too was pulled out and both horses were scratched out of the race, resulting in Glen Boss and Nichaolas Hall missing out on a chance to win the event.
Ridden by jockey Dwayne Dunn, Very Discreet jumped out of the barriers well however it was Devil May Care which led by two lengths in front of Seeking Attention and Jaalippy.
The pack tightened at the 400m mark before Devil May Care slipped back giving Seeking Attention the chance to launch forward around the 200 metres.
With Very Discreet and the Corey Brown-ridden Seeking Attention in the lead, Serenissima came from the back to ride out wide in an effort to reach the leaders.
With only 100m to go, Serenissima sprinted to the front to finish third behind second placegetter Seeking Attention.
Very Discreet finished just over a head’s lengths in front of Seeking Attention and her trianer, Richard Jolly was extremely happy with the mare’s performance.
“She has a good record…we’ll keep pacing her in the right races and she will be a better mare next year,” said Jolly.
