Kerrin McEvoy to Head North

Darley jockey Kerrin McEvoy will make his first appearance at the Brisbane winter carnival after overcoming injuries sustained in a race fall on Sydney Cup day.

McEvoy, who had been sidelined for nearly a month with injury, made a winning return to the track on Saturday, steering home Scarf in the last race of the day at Rosehill.

“It means a lot to come back with a winner. My fitness is not too bad and it’s all about getting your eye back in and getting in the groove again,” said McEvoy.

McEvoy will be itching to get back in the saddle after watching one of his regular mounts, Beaded, take home the Group 1 Doomben 10,000.

“There’s a heap of horses up there going to work on Tuesday morning, including the ones for next Saturday, so I’ll go up there on Monday night and work them on Tuesday,” said McEvoy.

McEvoy will ride Divorces in the Oaks as well as either Benfica or Free Wheeling in the BRC Sires Produce Stakes.

Trainer Peter Snowden and Kerrin McEvoy have teamed up for all four Group 1 two year old races run so far this year with Sepoy and Helmet. The TJ Smith is the last two year old Group 1 available this year.

McEvoy confirmed that he will ride Divorces in the Oaks but said he would leave his decision on which two year old he will ride until later in the week.
